02 Jan How Long is the Treatment Period of Dental Implants?
Ali Osman Emiroğlu, Dentist of Emident Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Clinic, tells about how long the treatment process of dental implants takes.
“The treatment period of dental implants varies depending on whether the application is one-stage or two-stage. The tooth can be removed and the implant can be applied immediately. However, in normal routine practice, there is a waiting period of 6 weeks in the lower jaw and 12 weeks in the upper jaw, and the prosthesis is applied within 8 days.”
Advances in medicine can produce solutions that are closest to reality in the partial or complete loss of teeth. Of course, the most realistic method for implant dental treatment is not only the loss of teeth, but also after any damage to the bone at the base of the gums, or when all teeth are lost in parallel with the change in the jawbone due to aging.
The duration of treatment varies according to the oral health of the patient. Unless there is a very different factor for each patient, it goes through the same stages. First of all, a dental x-ray with a panoramic view is taken in order to make some diagnoses such as tooth, jawbone compatibility and tooth root calculation. According to the result of this x-ray, the dentist makes the necessary preparations by deciding on the length of the tooth, the shape of the jawbone, the type of treatment and the fineness and suitability of the tooth area in the mouth for the implant treatment to be applied.
In the second process, the teeth and prostheses prepared according to the patient’s condition are now placed with a surgical operation. During this surgical operation, local anesthesia is usually applied to the patient, but it is possible to apply general anesthesia depending on the patient’s condition.
The waiting period after the implant is a process that starts from 6 weeks and can extend up to 6 months, depending on the patient’s condition and structure, and during this period, the artificial teeth placed in the jawbone in order to be a tooth root are expected to fuse with the bone and act as a real tooth.
